The Angelic Host of Hope

Luke 2v13-14: "Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.”

Within the Christmas story; the angelic host, a multitude or choir of angels, proclaim the good news of God’s salvation through Christ’s birth. Their heavenly announcement to the shepherds was both a profound message of joy, with Christ’s arrival bringing light into the darkness, and also a reminder that God sees us in our struggles and meets us with His extraordinary grace.

The ‘festive’ period can be an extremely difficult time for many leaders, magnifying feelings of loneliness, grief, or anxiety. For those experiencing these challenges this Christmas, this story offers a message of hope.

It reminds us that God does have the power and authority to bring peace to our troubled hearts and the wider troubled world. The angelic host reminds us that God recognises our struggles today and His presence is with us.

He also surrounds those of us with modern-day messengers of hope in form of family members, friends, mental health professionals and other leaders. Their acts of kindness and understanding echo the angelic proclamation of peace and goodwill, reflecting His love and compassion for His people. We were created for community - please do not struggle alone.

As we celebrate the birth of Christ, let us also embrace the opportunity to be God’s hands and feet in the world today, bringing encouragement and support to all who may be struggling during this season. By sharing the light of Christ, we can make this Christmas a time of healing and restoration, just as it was on that first holy night.

If you are severely struggling this Christmas time, there are some phone numbers you can call to speak with someone who can help. Many are 24 hours a day or open long hours. See our 'Get Urgent Help' page
